'Maxim' was inspired by the novel Rebecca, a gothic thriller penned by one of Chloe's favourite authors, Daphne Du Maurier.
Literature plays a big part in Chloe's life, as a keen reader and writer from a young age it comes as no surprise that her songs are often inspired by the characters and plots found in books. Especially a lingering novel such as Rebecca, which this August 2023 celebrates its 85th anniversary.
Du Maurier's tale ends on a twist, leaving the reader wondering what the future may hold for the characters left in it. Evidently, it's not only Chloe who has wondered about this outcome, with authors such as Susan Hill writing her own sequel to the book in Mrs De Winter and Sally Beauman doing the same with her novel Rebecca's Tale. Chloe couldn't help but be inspired to explore her own ideas of what may have come next for the character of Maxim De Winter...
The song is narrated by an onlooker, who saw what Maxim did - which is what plays the part of the twist in Rebecca. This onlooker is then burdened with what they saw and is faced with the decision to either expose this man who had always been "good" and "kind", or to keep the secret. For if the spy does tell, will Maxim come after them too?
Either way, the narrator decides that karma will come for him and decide his fate in the end...

With thoughtful songwriting and rich, lilting vocals that will captivate any music fan, Chloe has a unique sound that lends itself fittingly to the style of music she delivers, which is a luscious blend of folk, Americana and country - inspired by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline, Brandi Carlile and Fleetwood Mac.
Chloe’s music is transportive and she has a talent for storytelling, her use of imagery throughout her lyrics conjures up adventures often inspired by experiencing life to its fullest and travelling to faraway places, along with the personal hardships and highs that these journeys may bring. It is obvious that travel is a huge inspiration when you listen to her EP Meet You There; a collection of songs about travelling around the USA. Following that her EP Sundown released in September 2022 is a further exploration of the Americana sound with swooping pedal steel sounds complimenting her trusty acoustic guitar, the EP has a selection of tracks inspired by trips to the Americas, featuring Damsel; the tale of an uncomfortable trip to Guatemala, and her 2021 single New Mexico which delves into Chloe’s associations with another stunning part of the states; the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico.
Chloe is something to experience whether you encounter her in an intimate solo setting, or with the atmosphere turned up moodily high when backed with a full band. She has wowed crowds at music festivals such as The Good Life Festival, Geronimo Festival, Buckle and Boots Country Music Festival, Country On The Clyde, Made In Manchester Festival and various folk festivals across the country and is due to make her debut at the British Country Music Festival this year.

Chloe released her EP Sundown in 2022.
Available to stream on all the usual platforms and buy on CD, Sundown features three of Chloe's singles Damsel, New Mexico and Crocodile, plus two extra tracks Giving Up The Ghost and Big Man Says.
Seeped in a blend of pedal steel and acoustic guitars, floaty organ and Chloe's warm vocal tone , Sundown explores the Americana genre, and rightly so as each song is inspired by her travels and experiences in North and Central America.
